25. Something I made

My sister is an amazing quilter; her pieces are precise and beautiful, works of jaw-dropping perfection. My mother's quilts are artistic wonders; she may not have had my sister's perfect execution, but she had an unrivaled eye for color and design.

But let the record show that I was making quilts before either of them! I made baby blankets for all 3 of my sister's boys and for my brother's sons as well. Unfortunately, I can't cut a straight line, let alone sew a straight seam, so I gave up trying. I did, however, make a wall-hanging for my brother's wedding, many years ago.

My points aren't perfect, and not all the seams are straight, and the experts will tell you that my "values" are all wrong. But I think it's very pretty, and my brother and his wife loved it.

  2. Eh, screw values...I love it! I wish someone would teach me how to quilt...it's one of those crafty skills (this includes knitting) that I've never been able to teach myself.

  3. Oooh, that's gorgeous! Great color combination.

I'd love to learn how to quilt, but I'd have to know how to sew first.
